I learnt/was reminded of something today

When your problems appear too big
When the task at hand seems too great
When your situations start to appear impossible…

Maybe your God has become too small (:

Jeremiah 32:17
“Ah, Soverign Lord, you have made the heavens and earth with Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for You.”

The reason I cannot study must be attributed to my mom and dad. seriously. they have to be my biggest distraction.

just now…

I took out my notes and wanted to start studying

mum: hello want to go shopping tomorrow afternoon?

me: erm i have exams…

mum: oh… *walks out*

me *goes back to study*

5 mins later

dad: want to watch Narnia tomorrow?

me: i got exams. but…

dad: so you prefer the late night show?

mum: so afternoon you can study.

me: i can only do one either shopping or watch Narnia.

mum: okay 0930pm show better. CALVIN (my brother) Narnia tomorrow night ok?

*dad and mum both go off to buy tickets

me: -.-”

for the record, i got exams.

Today has been quite. a. day. I am not sure if I am ready to speak about the entire day for what it is at the moment but one thing I need to pen down…

Don’t figth growth.
Face it. Fight it. Deal with it.
Because it will be for the better.

James 1:3-4
Because you know the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you will be mature and complete, not lacking in anything.

The idea is not just to get pass it. It’s to grow.

I had a rather interesting conversation with a friend today, a friend who enjoys coming out with hypothetical scenarios. haha. However, I must admit the conversation in her car got me thinking and kept playing in my head. So here I am to jot down some notes on what I think before I lose them.

The conversation in the car got me thinking when the friend asked if divorcing your husband is biblical and under what scenarios can it be done. A variety of scenarios popped up (e.g. if he abuses you, mentally wrong somewhere, unrepentant etc). And we tried to figure out what the biblical thing to do was. Should we just stick with him and ’till death to us part’? What does God say? What would God want? And after thinking it through, with some help from above this thing about PREMISE came to mind. Instead of asking what would God want us to do in each individual and unique situation, have we understood WHY God set that command for us in the first place?

I repeat, instead of asking WHAT is the right thing to DO, ask God WHY does He say that it is the right things to do! Why? Because in doing so, we understand the heart of the matter, the reason and rationale of why God decreed something in the first place. God ain’t a cosmic spoilt sport so He defintely doesn’t set rules to make miserable but He does so to keep us SAFE.

When we come to understand the premise behind the command then we will be able to apply the command rightly even in a wide variety of situations!

I don’t really know why I suddenly decided to blog but I guess it’s because I wanted to note down some stuff that happened today and ponder if I want to share it with the friend in question (for good reason!). Actually as I’m writing I’m actually thinking if I will even post this. haha.

Today a friend taught me what it means to go the extra mile for people. She drove all the way back from Vivo to NTU just to pick me and another friend up. There were a lot of times when I wondered why people could find it in them be so giving (even at times when it doesn’t seem to reap any rewards) and then I realized (as I felt that warm fuzzy feeling) that the sacrifices that we choose to make for others is magnified on the recipient’s end and this love and sacrifice shown is contagious! So now I kinda understand where she’s coming from in choosing to do the things that she does. I guess that’s why God says that love is the best way and it’s kinda awesome like that (:

Tonight turned out to be great as we laughed on the way there, slurped away at Bak Koot Teh (i kid you not this was the spelling)  with the other dear friend’s kind little gestures (KLG) so thank you dear friends, for the awesome stuff that you have done. I would go into more detail but I think the other dear friend might find it a little to mushy for his palette.  So yes you people are awesome. 3 pairs of bunny ears for you!

phone conversation with dad who is in korea part 1

dad: what you want from korea?

me: dr jart’s bb cream

dad: what?!

me: dr jart bb cream

Tomorrow (or rather in 1 min’s time) is the mother’s bday. And as usual, me and dad had our pre-mom bday conversation.

dad: *smug tone* of course! I even made her a cake from the icing room.

me: -.-” okay i bought a card you want to share?

dad: *smug tone continues* no need. i bought 2.
